Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert has received many honors, demonstrating the quality of our programs and the people who make the magic happen.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert is a 2009 Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Gold Standard Pinnacle Award winner. Gold Standard Pinnacle Award winners achieve consecutive years of success as one of the top 5% of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ nearly 400 agencies in the nation in numbers of children served, high match support, low closure rates and increases in revenue to sustain the professionally supported mentoring relationships. Only 4 agencies in the country earned this honor in 2009 of which Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert is one of them.
"Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert represents the best of the best, working strategically in the face of a tough economy to work with donors and other supporters in their community to serve Bigs, Littles and families, sustaining long-term mentoring relationships that help children succeed," said Judy Vredenburgh, President and Chief Executive Officer, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
In 2008, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert received the Gold Standard Award along with 23 other Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies throughout the country. Judging for the Gold Standard Award is based on specific criteria that exemplify excellence in sustained growth in the number of children served, the quality of the match between the volunteer and the child, as well as increased revenues. A national leadership council panel of past winners conducted the judging.
"I am proud to be a part of a community committed to helping our children succeed," said Judy Tobin May, Executive Director. "These awards say as much about our community of supporters as it does about the agency itself. In this economy, it is more important than ever that we recognize and support what works to help children stay in school and away from negative influences."
In 2006 the Board of Trustees received the Robert L. Kommerstad Leadership Award for Board of the Year for their outstanding leadership by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and their Nationwide Leadership Council. In 2008, the Board of Trustees received Honorable Mention Honors as Board of the Year.

These honors and awards motivate Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert to achieve the vision we have established for the agency. Our vision is to improve the way children are growing up in the Coachella Valley through a professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationship with proven results. Not only does the child benefit from a positive role model, but their family, schools and the community are strengthened.
